Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team fell to University of Jamestown in a nonconference match-up from Fossum Field. The high scoring affair, 22-24, dropped the Wolves to 11-15 on the year.
Heading into the fourth inning of play, NSU led 5-0 scoring one in the first and second and three in the third. The flood gates opened in the fourth as the Northern pitching staff struggled to find the zone, giving up a total of 13 runs. The Wolves offense battled back with 17 runs in the fourth, fifth, and eighth, however were unable to secure the victory.
The Northern offense combined for a season high 21 hits and 24 runs.
Jack Schmidt led the Wolves with five hits, three runs scored, and five RBIs.
Riley Shintaffer matched Schmidt with five RBIs of his own, to go along with three hits and four runs scored.
A total of seven Wolves recorded multiple hits in the game, while
Alex Cornwell,
Clayton Nutting and Schmidt notched two doubles apiece.
Lucas Lorenz,
Robert Fahlin, and Shintaffer added a double each, bringing the team total to nine.
Colton Boucher,
Kassidy Gaines, and
John Eckstein threw the opening three innings of play, holding the Jimmies scoreless and giving up only three hits.
The Wolves will remain at home this weekend versus Upper Iowa University. Game times are set for 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday from Fossum Field.
