Aberdeen, S.D. – In the day one of the Upper Iowa series, the Northern State University baseball team came away with a sweep of the Peacocks. The Wolves improve to 13-15 overall and 7-9 in Northern Sun play.
Game One Northern started the game on top, with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The four runs came off the backs of
Mark Abrahamson and
Buddy Traxler with back-to-back homeruns to left. The Wolves added seven more runs in the next three innings of play.
Lucas Lorenz led the team going 3-for-4 from the plate, with two RBI and two runs scored.
Eric O'Bryan and
Alex Cornwell also recorded multiple hit games with two apiece. Cornwell added a homerun in the third and double in the fourth, to notch four RBI in the game.
Riley Shintaffer,
Mark Abrahamson,
Buddy Traxler, and
Jack Schmidt each recorded a hit in the win.
NSU ace
Colton Boucher tallied his fourth win of the season throwing six innings for the Wolves, in the 11-1 victory. Boucher gave up one earned run on four hits, while striking out three.
John Eckstein entered in relief for NSU, giving up two hits and no runs scored.
Game Two The NSU offense continued to shine in game two, as the Wolves led the entirety of the game.
Alex Cornwell led the team with three hits, one of which being his second homerun of the day. The seniors added two runs scored and three RBI in the process.
Tyler Gripentrog and
Riley Shintaffer each matched Cornwell with three hits of their own. The team combined for 15 hits and 11 RBI in the win.
Cody Johns earned his third win of the season throwing eight innings. Johns gave up two earned and seven hits, while striking out seven in the win.
Dillon Lee and
Marcus Manderbach three relief for the Wolves in the final inning of play.
Northern will return to Fossum Field tomorrow at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. versus the Peacocks.
