The NSU Baseball team didn't have the start they wanted in the NSIC. Starting 1-7 in conference play, they needed a spark. After this weekends clean sweep of Upper Iowa, the Wolves have won 8 out of it's last 10 conference games and sits at 15-15 overall and 9-9 in the NSIC. The Wolves out hit Upper Iowa(15-17, 7-11 NSIC) 62-37 over the weekend and won by a total runs scored by a 54-26 run differential.
Game 1
Upper Iowa started hot against NSU starter
James Georgakas (So. Ellsworth, Wisc.). He lasted only 1.2, giving up 4 hits and 4 earned with 2 walks. Erick Cervanka (RS FR. Lakeville, Minn.) came out of relief for Georgakas, earned his first collegiate win by throwing 3.1 innings. He gave up 3 hits and walked and struckout one. NSU got 4 runs in the second and third innings and tacked on 2 runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to cruise to a 12-6 win.
Tyler Gripentrog (So. Wahpeton, N. D.) went 3-4, with a run and a rbi.
Riley Shintaffer (Sr. Richland, Wash.) continued his torrid hitting going 3-4, a 2b, HR and 2 RBIs.
Alex Cornwell (Sr. Beaverton, Ore.) went 1-3, with a 2b and 3 RBI.
Jack Schmidt (RS Fr. Forest Lake, MInn.) went 3-4 with 3runs scored and a RBI.
Game 2
The Wolves scored in every inning and cruised to a mercy run rule in the 8th inning, by the score of 22-11.
Phil Sauer (So. Forest Lake, Minn.) started on the mound going 2 innings giving up 5 earned. Q Davis (Sr. Chehalis, Wash.) came in relief of Sauer and pitched a scoreless 3rd inning.
Kassidy Gaines (Sr. Twin Falls, Id.) went the rest of the way, earning his second win of the season. Gaines went 5 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 earned, with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. Offensively, the Wolves erupted for 8 doubles and 3 homeruns (2 by Lorenz).
Lucas Lorenz (Fr. Aberdeen, S.D.) went 4-6, with 3 runs scored, 2 homeruns and 7 RBIs.
Alex Cornwell matched Lorenz, as he went 4-6, scoring 2 runs, with a RBI. Shintaffer went 2-3, with 2 runs scored and Senior
Mark Abrahamson (Sr. Pipestone, Minn.) 3-4, 2B, HR, 4 RBIs.
Tyler Gripentrog went 2-5, with 5 runs scored, 5 RBI and 3 walks.
The Wolves will continue NSIC play on Wednesday at Home versus Concordia St. Paul. First pitch is set for 1pm and 3pm.
