Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team spilt with Augustana College in the opening day of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Wolves move to 7-6 on the year and 1-1 in conference games.
Game One The Wolves opened the conference bill with a 3-2 victory over the Vikings in the opening match-up of the day. Augustana scored first in the game, however NSU answered back in the top of the fourth inning.
Mark Abrahamson led off the inning with a hit by pitch, followed by
Riley Shintaffer with a single through the left side.
Buddy Traxler followed the pair, being hit by pitch as well. The trio came around to score off yet another hit by pitch and two groundouts to the shortstop and third basemen.
Jack Schmidt and
Clayton Nutting tallied RBIs in the inning.
The NSU led held through the seventh, as
James Georgakas tallied his second win of the season throwing six innings and giving up only two earned runs.
Kassidy Gaines earned the save in the game, throwing a bunt sacrifice and a double-play to end the game.
Abrahamson notched the Wolves other hit in the game, a double down the left field line. He was 1-for-2 in the game with the double and two hit by pitches.
Game Two The Vikings scored in four of their six innings at the plate mustering a 14-0 victory over the Wolves.

Jack Schmidt, and
Buddy Traxler tallied hits in the game, all of which were singles to the left side.
Northern threw three in the match-up, however
Shawn Powers suffered his third loss of the season. Powers gave up four earned runs off six hits, while striking out two in his 2.2 innings pitched.
Phil Sauer came in for Powers, giving up six earned runs of his own.
Erick Cervenka then entered for the Wolves throwing a shutout 2.2 innings, however Northern was unable to return the favor in the final innings of play.
The Wolves will be back in action tomorrow from Sioux Falls, with a double header beginning at 12 p.m. against the Vikings.
