Sioux Falls, S.D. – The No. 16 Northern State University women's basketball team fell to Augustana College in the final seconds of Friday basketball play, 57-59. The Wolves slide to 19-4 overall and 13-4 in the conference.
Devon Brecke, coming off her recent player of the week honors, went 6-for-11 from the floor with 16 points and five rebounds. Brecke added a team leading four assists in the loss.
Rachel Krogman 12 points and a game leading 15 rebounds.
Megan Mutchler was back in double-digit scoring with 13 points on the night.
After shooting 36.0 percent in the first half of play, Northern ended the game 22-59, at 37.3 percent. Although they out-shot their opponents in the match-up, the Wolves were well under their season average. The Wolves made it a game tying the score twice in the final minutes and coming back from a seven point deficit with three minutes remaining.
Northern out-rebounded the Vikings 41-37 in the game, and tallied 28 points in the paint. Nineteen bench points for the Vikings made the difference in the game, to Northern's 12, led by
Paige Waytashek with eight.
The Wolves will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Wayne State College. Game time is set for 4 p.m. between the Wolves and the Wildcats.
