Wolves Hit the Road for Big Away Weekend

Aberdeen, S.D. – The no. 16 Northern State University women's basketball team heads to Augustana College and Wayne State College this Friday and Saturday. The Wolves will face off against the Vikings, Friday, at 6 p.m., and against the Wildcats Saturday, at 4 p.m., from Sioux Falls and Wayne.
 
The Wolves enter the weekend after a big two win weekend versus Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. After the 80-85 defeat of the Mavericks, and 54-49 victory over the Golden Bears, NSU moved up one spot to no. 16 in the national rankings. Junior Devon Brecke earned herself North Division Player of the Week honors after a standout contest against Minnesota State, notching a career high 30 points and six assists. The junior shot 52.6 percent from the floor and averaged 20 points, four boards and four assists in the two games as the Wolves extended their home winning streak to 28 games. The Wolves lead the conference in four team categories, and continue to lead the nation in points scored defense at 49.9. Strong defense and aggressive rebounding will be crucial for the Wolves on the road this weekend.
 
About Augustana College
 
The Vikings are led by senior Shaunteva Ashley. She currently sits seventh in the nation in scoring, while leading the NSIC. Ashley has been named NSIC player of the week six times this season. Augie is currently on a four game win streak in conference play, while holding a fifth place standing in the Northern Sun South Division.
 
 All-Time NSU vs. AUGIE
 
Northern is 21-22 all-time versus the Vikings with a win and a loss in 2013-14. Northern fell 62-79 in the regular season, before coming back in post season play with a 67-62 victory.  In the win, Rachel Krogman led the team with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Sadie Stotesbery added 17 points and eight rebounds.
 
About Wayne State

The Wildcats are currently 22nd in the nation, and lead the conference overall standings. They are also leaders of the South Division with a mirror record to the Wolves. Wayne State thrives off a balanced attack from seniors Ashton Yossi, Millie Niggeling, and Jordan Spencer.
 
All-Time NSU vs. WSC
 
The Wolves are 21-22 all-time against the Wildcats, after falling a season ago. Northern's last victory came in 2012-13, when they broke an 11 game Wildcat win streak. The Wolves had four players in double-digits in 2013-14, however were unable to hold of the WSC attack. Sharp shooting from the arch, 11 total made three's, led Wayne State to the 67-62 victory.
