Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team kicks off the 2015 home season this weekend from Wachs Arena. The Wolves are set to take on Jamestown at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Fans are reminded that the NSU and UJ coaching staffs will be putting on a free youth clinic in the NSU wrestling room at 4 p.m. prior to the match.
Northern is coming off a solid weekend at the SD Showcase, going 1-2 against Dakota Wesleyan, South Dakota State University and Augustana. Although the Wolves fell to the Jackrabbits, they were South Dakota's highest scoring opponent of the day. NSU defeat DWU 38-12 and fell to Augie 31-12.
Joe Gomez and
C.J. Voegeli went 3-0 in the dual setting, while
Carson Henry went 2-1. The Wolves are now 3-3 in duals.
The Wolves look to wrestle hard this weekend in front of the home crowd. Northern fans will see a different look to the game day experience with the additions of mat side seats and other in game items.
About the Jimmies- Jamestown is 3-7 in duals this season with victories over University of Regina, Northland Tech and Itasca Community College.
- Dan Lovell enters is first season with the program, however was an assistant coach from 2012-13.
- 174 pounder Mike Nord recently took first in the Red Division at the MSU Moorhead Dragon Open. Nord went a perfect 3-0 defeating opponents from St. Cloud State, Augustana, and North Dakota State.
- Brandon Aragon and Jackson Schauer each took second from MSUM at 149 and 157 pounds respectively.
- The Jimmies fell to NSIC opponent U-Mary 47-0 a weekend ago.
