Dual ResultsBismarck, N.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team went 2-1 from the University of Mary duals with wins over Ridgewater College and U-Mary. The Wolves opend with a 23-14 loss to Great Falls, but bounced back with wins over Ridgewater and U-Mary, 32-13 and 29-21.
Great Falls Dual Northern's 14 points in the first dual of the day came off the backs of
Tyler Stenberg,
David Murphy, and
Joe Gomez. Stenberg took down Kyle Leir with a 7-5 decision at 149 pounds. Murphy won by virtue of the forfeit and Gomez took the 17-2 technical fall victory over Sam Voigtlaender at 197 pounds.
Ridgewater Dual The Wolves opened the second dual of the day with four straight wins.
Carson Henry defeated Lucas Hagel by fall at 2:29, followed by Kenny Macealvey with a 5-3 decision over Logan Crosby.
Tyler Stenberg earned his first pin of the day against Brian Macdonald at 1:11 to put the Wolves up by 15.
Grant Steen was next on the win list at 157 with a 703 decision over Travis Deegan.
Anthony Navarro,
David Murphy, and
Joe Gomez rounded out the dual for the Wolves with three straight wins. Navarro took down Brandon Bratsch by technical foul with a score of 20-5. Murphy followed with his first pin of the day just 58 seconds into the match. Gomez finished the dual at 285 pounds with a 7-0 decision over John Wittman.
U-Mary Dual Carson Henry tallied his second pin of the day to open the U-Mary Dual. The pin came just 44 seconds into the match with Josh Jensen.
Tyler Stenberg and
David Murphy each notched decisive pins at 4:26 and 6:44 respectively.
Also recording wins versus the Marauders were
Grant Steen and
Anthony Navarro with major decisions over Dane Fischer and Jon Pelach.
Joe Gomez recorded the final victory, a 3-2 decision over Travis Smith.
Next up for Wolves wrestling is the DWU Open, beginning at 9 a.m. on the 14
th. The Wolves kick-off the 2015-16 home season December 13
th.
