Photo GalleryAberdeen, S.D.- The No. 4 Northern State University volleyball team completed a weekend sweep defeating the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles 3-0 in Saturday volleyball action. The victory propels the Wolves to 24-2 overall and 16-2 in NSIC play, while Minnesota Crookston falls to 7-18 overall and 3-14 in the conference.
The No. 4 Wolves came out strong in set one by recording an attack percentage of .375 with only two errors, coming away with the 25-16 win. NSU remained solid in the second and third sets defeating the Golden Eagles, 25-18 and 25-15.
As a team, Northern racked up a .333 attack percentage with 47 kills. The Golden Eagles were held to a .152 attack percentage and only 29 kills. Each team picked up a total of four blocks in the match.
Mandy Kurosky led the team with 14 kills, a .583 hitting percentage and no errors on the night. Senior
Cari McGarvie was effective offensively and defensively, tallying 13 kills with a .435 attack percentage, and recording two blocks, along with two digs.
Kellie Schmit notched nine kills and
Kelsey Chambers added an additional six kills for the Wolves.
NSU senior,
Drew Smith continued to accumulate assists as she had 44 of the team's 45 total.
Renee Hoffman defended the Wolves from the back row, picking up 14 digs for a team high in the match.
With the victory, No. 4 Northern State volleyball holds their first place spot in the NSIC standings, tied with No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State and No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul.
The team will travel to St. Cloud State to take on the Huskies Fri. Nov. 13
th at 7 p.m. and continue on the road from Minnesota Duluth against the Bulldogs at 4 p.m. on Sat. Nov. 14
th.
