Photo Gallery Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University men's basketball team battled with 53 points in the second half, however came up short against Briar Cliff in the exhibition opener at home. The Wolves were unable to fight back from the 42-35 deficit at the half.
Darin Peterka led the Wolves with 28 points in the game and shot 75 percent from the floor.
Spencer Pankonin and
DJ Pollard were also in double-digits with 16 and 15 in the game. Pankonin led the team with nine rebounds and shot 66.7 percent from field goal range. Pollard tallied a team leading five assists, followed by Peterka and
Mack Arvidson with three each.
The Wolves shot 50 percent from the floor and 34.6 percent from the arch in the game, while the Chargers shot 45.5 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from the arch. NSU out-rebounded their opponents 36-33, and tallied 20 second chance points of 18 offensive boards
Mack Arvidson led the NSU bench, which scored 18 point, with nine of his own. Arvidson also added a team leading two steals.
Skye Warwick and
Justin Decker notched seven points apiece, while
Carter Evans and
Bo Fries recorded four and two in the loss.
Northern out-scored their opponents in the paint 40-26 and forced 13 Briar Cliff turnovers on defense. The difference in the game, was the Chargers 16 points off 16 NSU turnovers.
The NSU men will be back in action Monday from Lincoln, Nebraska. Northern is set to take on Nebraska at 7:00 p.m. from Pinnacle Bank Arena.
