Photo GalleryAberdeen, S.D. – The No. 4 Northern State University volleyball team took down Bemidji State in a three set sweep on Friday from Golden Eagle Gym. With the win the Wolves improve to 23-2 overall and 15-2 in the league, while the Beavers fall to 6-20 on the year and 4-13 in the NSIC.
Northern made the Aberdeen Golden Eagle court their own hitting a season second best .484, with a season low five errors, on the night. The Wolves recorded 49 total kills and hit 15-of-27 with no errors in the third set. The Beavers were held to a .165 hitting percentage and only 34 kills in the loss.
Kelsey Chambers led the team with 13 kills, and only one attack error. The senior hit .545 in the win with 11 digs and two blocks.
Cari McGarvie led the team hitting .588 with 12 kills. She also was solid on defense with three blocks and four digs.
Mandy Kurosky was the final Wolf in double digits with 11 kills. Kurosky recorded her best hitting percentage in the last eight matches with a .476 mark.
Northern's front lines was solid, as each of the five hitters swung above .300 in the win.
Kellie Schmit added five kills and hit .455, while
Tori Biach notched eight and hit .389. A constant for the Wolves this season,
Drew Smith added 44 assists and paced the team to a .484 attack percentage. Smith also added eight digs and one block.
The Wolves defense was strong both on the back line and at the net with seven blocks and 51 digs.
Kellie Schmit led the team with four blocks, while
Renee Hoffman tallied a team leading 14 digs and added four assists.
With the win, Northern holds strong in a three way league lead tie with No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State and No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul.
The Wolves will face off against Minnesota Crookston tomorrow at 4 p.m. from Wachs Arena. The NSU seniors will be honored prior to the game. Fans will be admitted free to the NSU men's basketball game with their volleyball ticket stub, as the men take on Briar Cliff immediately following.
