Guards Pace Wolves in 83-63 Victory at Home

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University men's basketball team recorded their second victory in as many days with an 83-63 defeat of Chadron State College. NSU improves to 3-3 overall, while the Eagles slide to 2-2 on the year.
 
It was a solid night for the NSU starting guards, as the trio combined for 52 points and each tallied double-digit scoring. Mack Arvidson and Skye Warwick each notched 18 in the win, while Darin Peterka tallied 16. Warwick and Arvidson led the team shooting 75.0 and 58.3 percent from the floor.
 
The Wolves came out hot and led from the first basket scored, tallying 45 points in the first half and adding 38 in the second. NSU shot 52.8 percent in the game, and held their opponent to a 44.4 percent mark. Michael Schreiber led the Wolves to out-rebound the Eagles 30-27 with eight on the night. He was followed by Darin Peterka with seven. Schreiber also tallied eight points in the win.
 
Ian Smith nearly reached double-digits with a season and career high nine points, while Spencer Pankonin and Bo Fries added seven and five. Smith was an asset on offense with a game leading four assists. Schreiber and Warwick were close behind with three each. Pankonin led the team with a season high three blocks.
 
Northern took advantage of the 16 Chadron State turnovers and tallied 25 points. The Wolves also added 16 points off the bench, 26 points in the paint, and nine points off nine offensive boards. As a unit, the men shot 52.8 percent from the floor, 59.1 percent from the arch, and 66.7 percent from the foul line. Schreiber led the Wolves from the foul line, going a perfect 4-for-4 on the night.
 
The NSU men will play their final non-conference match-up of 2015-16 Monday versus Jamestown. Game time is set for 8 p.m. following the NSU women's game with Dordt College.
