Wolves Drop NSIC Opener on the Road

Moorhead, Minn. – The Northern State University men's basketball team fell to MSU Moorhead on the road in the NSIC regular season opener 73-65. The Wolves drop to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in league play, while the Dragons improve to 5-1 on the year and 1-0 in the NSIC.
 
The two team's battled throughout the game, as the Wolves tied the score on four occasions in each half. NSU tallied a season high 17 points off of 13 Dragon turnovers, and gave up only six of their own in the game. The Dragons out-shot (47.1-33.8) and out-rebounded (41-32) the Wolves in the win. Northern trailed 37-31 at halftime and rallied back for 34 points in the second half, however it was not enough as the Dragons recorded 34 points of their own.
 
Four total Wolves tallied double-digit points, led by DJ Pollard with 15. Pollard also recorded a team leading seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while shooting 38.5 percent from the floor. Spencer Pankonin and Skye Warwick followed with 13 points apiece. Darin Peterka was the final double-digit scorer of the night with 12. Pankonin led the team shooting 41.7 percent from the floor.
 
Northern tallied ten points off the bench led by Carter Evans with six and Mack Arvidson with four. Pankonin and Warwick each tallied a team leading three made long range baskets.
 
The Wolves will be back in action with three straight non-conference games at home. Northern will welcome in town opponent Presentation College on Friday at 7 p.m., and return to Wachs Arena for a 6:30 p.m. match-up with Chadron State on Saturday. The NSU men's and women's basketball teams will play their first double header of the season Monday as the men take on Jamestown at 8 p.m. following the women.
