Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Northern State University women's basketball team defeated University of Colorado, Colorado Springs 75-69 on the road. The Wolves improve to 4-1 overall heading into the NSIC opener versus MSU Moorhead.
The Wolves recorded their third straight victory shooting 50.9 percent from the floor and 73.1 percent from the free throw line.
Miranda Ristau led NSU with a career high 19 points, shooting 87.5 percent in the win. The sophomore recorded a double-double with ten rebounds and added five made free throws. Senior
Lauren Deadrick matched Ristau's total of ten boards and added six points.
Paige Waytashek and
Devon Brecke also scored in double-digits with 16 and 13 points respectively. Brecke was second on the team with eight rebounds, while the duo each tallied a team leading three assists.
Alexis Tappe also tallied three assists in the win and added four points.
Bethany Crosswait and
Jill Conrad each recorded seven points in the win.
Northern out-rebounded the Mountain Lions 48-27, recording 35 defensive boards. The Wolves tallied 29 points off the bench and 34 points in the paint to lead the game. The Wolves largest lead of 18 points came with under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The NSU defense held the Mountain Lions to a 34.7 shooting percentage and forced 11 turnovers. The Wolves led throughout the game and tallied 77 total possessions in the win. Northern out-scored their opponents in three of the four quarters and fought to keep the lead despite 30 UCCS points off 22 NSU turnovers.
The women will be back in action Tuesday on the road at MSU Moorhead. The NSIC opener is set for 6 p.m. with the men to follow. NSU will open the 2015 home season November 30 versus Dordt College.
