Listen LiveAberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University men's basketball team is set to face NSIC opponent Southwest Minnesota State in non-conference action Thursday. The Wolves and Mustangs will tip-off at 8 p.m. from Marshall.
The Wolves enter the match 1-1 on the year after a trip to the Arkansas Tech Classic. Northern fell to Arkansas Tech 81-80, but bounced back for the 73-67 victory over Harding.
Skye Warwick led the team with career high points each night, scoring 25 against the Wonder Boys and 26 versus the Bison. Warwick earned Arkansas Tech All-Tournament team honors with his 50 points and 60.0% shooting from the floor.
DJ Pollard was solid against Harding University with ten points and a team leading eight rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Mack Arvidson led the NSU bench with 12 points versus the Bison, and is shooting 54.5% from field goal range. Northern is currently shoot 47.0% from the floor and 44.0% from 3-point range as a unit.
About the Mustangs • Southwest enters the game 1-1 on the year, traveling to the NSIC/MIAA Crossover a weekend ago.
• SMSU fell to Fort Hays State 76-75 and bounced back for an 80-75 victory over Emporia.
• The Mustangs are led by head coach Brad Bigler in his 18th season with the program. Bigler has seen a variety of rolls with Southwest and holds a career record of 95-80.
• Southwest returns leading scorer Joey Bartlett in 2015-16. The junior led the Mustangs averaging 13.8 points per game with 58 3-point baskets a season ago.
• The Mustangs enter the year picked eighth overall and fourth in the NSIC South Division after a 12-17 record a season ago.
Last Match-Up • The two teams faced off twice in 2014-15 with the Wolves coming out on top in both games. Northern defeated SMSU 93-88 in the non-conference match-up from Aberdeen, and took the 98-90 road victory in NSIC action.

Darin Peterka tallied a team second best 19 points from Aberdeen. The then sophomore added four rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
• The Wolves shot 47.8% from the floor and 75.0% from the foul line, while the Mustangs shot 51.6% from the floor and 59.1% from the foul line.
• Northern tallied 17 second chance buckets off 12 offensive boards and 20 points of 16 Mustang turnovers to secure the victory.

Darin Peterka each tallied double-digit points in the road win with 14 and 11 respectively.
• Each team shot over 50.0% from the floor and the NSU defense struggled to stop Joey Bartlett with 24 points and six rebounds.
• The Wolves however recorded 20 points off 14 turnovers and 54 points in the paint.
