Duluth, Minn. – The No. 3 Northern State University volleyball team fell to No. 9 Minnesota Duluth on the road in the regular season finale. The Wolves drop to 25-3 overall and 17-3 in the league. Northern earned the No. 3 seed in the NSIC Tournament and will host the No. 7 seed and No. 25 Winona State Warriors this Wednesday.
It was a battle from the start as the Wolves took the first set 26-24. The Bulldogs fought back with 25-22 and 25-15 victories in sets two and three. NSU answered with a 25-20 set four win and forced the fifth and decisive set.
Kelsey Chambers led the team with 21 kills, followed by
Mandy Kurosky with 20. Kurosky hit a team leading .405 in the win, while Chambers recorded her 13
th double-double of the season with ten digs.
Cari McGarvie was the final Wolf in double-digits with 11 kills and hit .348 in the match.
Renee Hoffman led the defense with 15 digs, while
Drew Smith tallied 62 assists averaging 12.40 per set. Smith also added six digs and one block.
Annika van Oosbree recorded seven digs, while
Tori Biach and
Kellie Schmit led the team with four blocks. Biach notched eight kills and Schmit added five to the team total of 65.
The Wolves hit .242 in the match, however were unable to fend off the Bulldog offense with a .338 attack percentage in the win. The Bulldogs also tallied a game leading 71 kills, nine blocks, and 58 digs.
