Photo GalleryAberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University football team fell to Bemidji State in the season finale 41-24 from Swisher Field. Despite the loss, the Wolves earn a share of the North Division crown. The Wolves last earned a conference Championship in 1999. Northern finishes the year 6-5 overall and 6-1 in the NSIC North.
Bemidji State scored first on their first drive of the game taking the quick 7-0 lead.
Adrian Krupka cut into the Beaver lead with five minutes remaining in the first, connecting on a 37 yard field goal. The Wolves defense held BSU the next drive forcing the Beavers to punt. The NSU special teams recorded its first blocked punt of the game, as
Joe Parsley broke through to knock down the Aanerud kick.
Noah MacPherson recovered for the Wolves and ran 31 yards to the goal line for his first touchdown of 2015.
The Beavers quickly answered with a touchdown of their own to round out the first quarter. Another quick defensive stop and Beaver blocked punt to open the second quarter, saw the Wolves taking the 17-12 lead.
Brian Sumption knocked down the kick, and
Etienne Ezeff recovered for a 25 yard run to the goal line.
The two teams entered the locker tied 24 all at the half, after a
Cameron Pudwill touchdown run and Bemidji State touchdown and made field goal. The Beavers held the Wolves scoreless in the second half and tacked on three touchdowns to secure the victory.
Kyle Lavand tallied 250 yards passing in the game, while
Nicholas Truen led the team with 43 yards rushing.
Zachery Barber led the NSU receivers with 84 yards and seven receptions, while
Tyrell Anderson recorded 56 yards on six receptions.
Chad Stoterau led the NSU defense with nine tackles, seven of which were solo. Stoterau also tallied two sacks for a total loss of 18 Beaver yards. Seniors
Devin Olson and
Alex Bernstein each notched eight tackles. The Wolves tallied 11 pass break-ups led by Bernstein and
Tyson Zemlicka with two apiece.
Taylor Zemlicka notched a solo sack, with Tyson and
Tanner Lopez combine for the team's fourth of the game.
Senior punter
Adrian Krupka averaged 42.2 yards per punt with a 66 yard long. Krupka also averaged 48.0 yards per kickoff.
Zachery Barber led the NSU returners with 104 yards on four kickoff returns. Baber's longest of the day was a 49 yard return to open the second half.
