Wayne, Neb.- The Northern State University women's basketball team defeated William Jewell College from the Wayne State Classic tonight by a score of 69-37. The Wolves picked up their first victory in the 2015-16 season opener, while the Cardinals drop to 1-3 on the year.
Northern State had an early advantage as they finished the first quarter of the game, up 16 to 4. The team continued to create a scoring spread throughout the entire first half of the contest, with the 31-10 lead. Leading in points for the Wolves was
Devon Brecke and
Alexis Tappe with 11 a piece, followed by
Jill Conrad and
Lauren Deadrick with ten points each.
The Wolves compiled an overall field goal percentage of 50.9, and were consistent from three-point range, shooting 17.6 percent.
Defensively,
Jill Conrad had seven rebounds, collecting eight total rebounds for the Wolves.
Gabby Laimer picked up three steals, while
Lauren Deadrick handled the team's two total blocks. The Wolves held the Cardinals to a 23.2 shooting percentage in the game, but William Jewell had the upper hand in total three pointer recording six to Northern State's total three.
The Wolves return to action tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. from Rice Auditorium in Wayne, Neb. to take on the Lindenwood Lady Lions.
