The men were once again led by local standout freshmen
Tanner Peltier (Aberdeen Central HS), who would lead the Wolves to a second place team finish out of 4 non-Division I programs. Peltier finished with a personal best 27:24.43 in his second career 8k race to place 43
rd overall and seventh among non-Division I competition. Following shortly behind Peltier were
Clay Danielson and
Ben Jack who finished 44
th and 47
th overall with times of 27:29.27 and 27:35.24. Rounding out the scoring top five for the Wolves were
Blake Perryman and
Nathan Patterson, finishing in 53
rd and 61
st places overall with times of 28:08.54 and 28:38.16.
Coach Bjerke's thoughts on the women. Bullen finished 12
th overall and third among non-Division I runners en-route to her career fastest 5k time of 18:18.75 on a cross country course. That was a common trend among the rest of the women's squad, as four of the five Wolves finishers recorded their personal best 5k cross country times. The Wolves lone senior,
Nicole Arnold, saw the biggest improvement from earlier this season by dropping her personal best from the Herb Blakely Invitational by 27 seconds to 19:09.83 and once again finish as the team's second runner.
Lindsey Gast,
Paige Larson and
Hanna Wahl all stayed within sight of each other to finish sixth, seventh and tenth among non-Division I runners (37
th, 40
th and 48
th overall out of 87 runners) in times of 19:37.78, 19:45.00 and 20:00.24 respectively. The team nearly doubled up points on second place Jamestown to win the non-Division I scoring, and would have finished ahead of both Division I programs of University of North Dakota and Nebraska-Omaha had they been scored together.
The men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action next weekend at the Jimmie Invitational, with the men racing at 4 p.m., and the women following at 4:45.
