Wolves Soccer Defeats SMSU 1-0, Tietz With the Shutout

Aberdeen, S.D.- The Northern State soccer team defeated Southwest State this afternoon by a score of 1-0, completing a weekend sweep from Jerde Field. The team improves 5-7-1 in NSIC play and 7-8-1 overall, while Southwest State drops to 7-5-1 in the conference and 7-7-2 overall.

Action began early for the Wolves, as senior Amber Wanous intercepted a Mustang pass at midfield. Wanous found Anna Bondy who connected with Allie Macdonald in the box. The senior forward struck the shot passed Southwest State goalkeeper, Brienna Dehkes, to make it a 1-0 game in favor of the Wolves in the 12th minute of play.

Northern State attempted 15 total shots, with Southwest State adding 13 to the cause. The two teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the match, however neither team could connect with the back of the net for another goal.

Senior goalkeeper, Brittany Tietz had a solid performance as the veteran recorded her first shutout of the season. Tietz faced one corner kick and recorded five saves in the matchup.

The Wolves offense had shots of goal from five different players including, Anna Bondy, Alexis Lewis, Allie Macdonald, Amelia Taylor and Darian Leschewski.  Forward Allie Macdonald recorded six points for the Wolves on the weekend with two goals and two assists. Macdonald now has six goals and five assists on the year.

Northern State soccer will host their last home game of the season this upcoming Friday at 2:00 p.m. from Jerde Field against the University of Mary. The game marks one of two games left in the regular season for the Wolves.
