Listen LiveThe Northern State men's basketball team will hit the road for the first time in 2015 this weekend as the Wolves travel to face Minot State Friday at 8 p.m. and U-Mary at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Northern (12-2, 6-2 NSIC) is coming off an impressive weekend last week as it defeated Winona State 74-51 and Upper Iowa 80-67. Against the Warriors, the Wolves recorded a season-high 20 assists on 25 made field goals and also made a season-best 13 three-pointers in the victory.
Tydan Storrusten led all scorers with 19 points in the contest. Against UIU, Northern held the Peacocks to just 33 percent shooting from the field and held them 17 points below their season average.
Seth Bachand had 15 points and eight rebounds in the victory.
Northern NotesBachand continues to put up big numbers for the Wolves this season as he ranks 15
th in the NSIC in scoring (13.6 ppg), leads the league in rebounding (8.9 rpg), ranks third in field goal percentage (65.7 percent) and is fifth in blocks (1.4 bpg).
Skye Warwick ranks third in the conference and fourth in the nation shooting 52 percent from three-point range on the year. His 2.9 three-pointers made per game are second-best in the NSIC.
Spencer Pankonin ranks sixth in the league in three-point percentage shooting 51.3 percent from deep while
Darin Peterka is seventh in the conference averaging 1.5 steals a contest.
About the BeaversMinot is 5-1 at home this season with its only loss coming to Southwest Minnesota State. The Beavers rank ninth in the league in scoring averaging 74 points per game and are 12th in scoring defense as they allow 73.4 points per contest. MSU is fifth in the NSIC in field goal percentage, shooting 48.2 percent as a team and is also fifth in three-point percentage shooting at a 39 percent clip. The Beavers are tops in the league in defensive rebounding as opponents are grabbing just 30 boards per contest against them. Minot is second in the conference in rebounding margin at plus-6.9 a contest. Thomas Korf leads the team and is 21st in the NSIC in scoring averaging 12.6 points per. Korf leads the league in three-pointers made per game with 3.1 and is fifth in three-point percentage at 51.8 percent.
About the MaraudersU-Mary notched its first conference win last Saturday as it defeated Bemidji State 86-80 on the road. The Marauders rank 10th in the NSIC in scoring averaging 73 points per contest and are 14th in defensive scoring allowing 74.5 ppg. Mary ranks third in the league in defensive rebounding allowing just 30.7 boards per game and rank fifth in the league in steals with 6.7 a contest. Marquealis Edwards ranks 13th in the league in scoring averaging 14.3 ppg. Edwards also ranks fourth in assists per game with 4.6 and is second in steals with 1.9 per. Bryan Jefferson leads the team and is 13th in the NSIC in rebounding with 5.8 a game.
Last MeetingNorthern defeated Minot 83-72 back in December in Aberdeen. Storrusten led the Wolves with a career-high 22 points while
DJ Pollard added 18 in the win. Last time against the Marauders, Bachand had a monster night for the Wolves as he scored 19 points, grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds and had career-highs with six assists and five blocks in the 86-79 win.
