Aberdeen, S.D. – After a rocky first half of basketball, the No. 7 Northern State University women's basketball team came back to defeat Upper Iowa University 68-58 at home. The Wolves improve to 13-1 on the year and 7-1 in NSIC play.

Northern trailed 28-32 at the half, after a physical 20 minutes of basketball action. The Wolves returned from the break out for blood shooting 57.7 percent from the floor and connecting for 40 points. Rachel Krogman led the Northern attack, gaining the lead for the Wolves. Krogman finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. Krogman added four assists, two blocks and one steam in the contest.

The second half consisted of back and forth play, with each team taking the lead. Kara Hofschild secured the Wolves lead with just under eight minutes remaining, driving the lane and putting NSU up by one. Northern held the lead as the Peacock fouls ensued with five minutes to go. Hofschild notched nine points in the win, going a perfect 2-for-2 from the floor.

Devon Brecke recorded a season high 12 points in the game, shooting 100 percent from the free-throw line and the arch. Sadie Stotesbery was the final NSU athlete in double-digit points with 11, alongside nine rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. Megan Mutchler went 4-for-7 from the floor with eight points.

The women out-rebounded their opponents 37-28, and forced 13 Peacock turnovers for 17 points. With strong play in the post, Northern marked a season high 40 points in the paint led by Krogman. The NSU offense was able to stay in single turnovers with eight in the game.

Sami Smith, Lauren Deadrick, and Miranda Ristau were the final NSU scorers of the night with three, two, and two points respectively. As a team, the Wolves shot 45.8 percent in the game, and 50 percent from three-point range.

Northern will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Minot State and University of Mary. Game times are scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday Jan. 9th, against the Beavers, and 5 p.m., Saturday Jan. 10th, versus the Marauders.
