Photo GalleryThe Northern State wrestling team picked up its first dual win of the season Thursday night as the Wolves defeated Jamestown 30-20, in an exciting match inside Wachs Arena. NSU won six of the eight contested matches as it had to forfeit at 125 and 133 pounds.
The Wolves (1-9) got an incredible four falls in their six wins on the night, with
Tyler Frost (141),
Sean Havlovic (157),
Blake Perryman (165) and
Joe Gomez (197) all picking up pins. Gomez's, Havlovic's and Perryman's victories all came in the second period of their matches while Frost ended things late in the first period of his match.
Grant Steen at 149 pounds and
Dustin Caspers at heavyweight both picked up decisions on the nigh for Northern. Steen's came in exciting fashion as he claimed a 5-3 win in sudden victory overtime via a takedown early in the extra period. Caspers controlled much of his match in a 7-1 win.
Northern returns to action next week as it travels to Dickinson State for an 8 p.m. match February 4.
