Wolves Set for a Pair of Tough Home Tests

The Northern State men's basketball team finishes its four game homestand this weekend as the Wolves host No. 18 Minnesota State Friday at 8 p.m. and Concordia-St. Paul at 7 p.m. Saturday. NSU is coming off a weekend sweep last week over Bemidji State and Minnesota, Crookston. The Mavericks are 16-3 overall on the season and 11-2 in NSIC play while CU is 13-6 overall and 9-4 in the league.

The Wolves (17-3, 11-3 NSIC) are receiving votes to be ranked in the latest NABC top-25 poll and are currently on a four-game winning streak and are 10-1 at home this season. Northern is led by Seth Bachand who leads the team and is 11th in the NSIC in scoring with 14.9 points per game. Bachand also ranks second in the league in rebounding with 8.3 boards per contest and is second in field goal percentage shooting just over 67 percent on the year. His 1.3 blocks per game are sixth-most in the conference.

Skye Warwick's 49 percent three-point shooting ranks seventh in the league and his 2.7 made threes per game are third-most in the NSIC. Defensively, Darin Peterka (1.5) and Tydan Storrusten (1.4) rank sixth and 10th, respectively in the league in steals per game.

About the Mavericks
Minnesota State is fourth in the league in scoring offense averaging 82 points per game and is fifth in scoring defense as they allow 69.6 per. The Mavericks rank third in the NSIC in field goal percentage shooting 49.7 percent from the floor and are tops in the league in three-point shooting, making 42.6 percent from beyond the arc. MSU also ranks second in the conference in both assists per game (17) and in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7). The Mavericks are led by Head Coach Matt Margenthaler who is in his 14th season with the program.

MSU's Assem Marei ranks third in the league in scoring with 19.6 points per game and is the league-leader in rebounding with 8.6 per contest. Zach Monaghan leads the NSIC and the nation in assists per game with 8.6.

About the Golden Bears
Concordia ranks 13th in the NSIC in scoring offense averaging 71.2 points per game and has the second-best scoring defense in the league, allowing just 64.3 points per. The Golden Bears have the best field goal percentage defense in the league, allowing opponents to shoot just 39.2 percent from the floor and their 31.7 percent allowed from three-point range is also tops in the league. CU ranks third in the conference in rebounding margin (plus-5.2) and in steals per game (6.9) this season. Joey James is in his first season as the head coach at Concordia.

Concordia's Cole Olstad ranks 16th in the NSIC in scoring at 13.8 points per game and is 13th in rebounding averaging 5.6 boards per. Terez VanPelt ranks seventh in the conference in assists per game with 4.1.
