Football Travels to Concordia-St. Paul for First Road Game of 2014

The Northern State football team will hit the road for the first time in 2014 as the Wolves travel to Concordia-St. Paul Saturday for a 6 p.m. kick with the Golden Bears.

The Wolves are coming off a 47-13 loss in their season opener to Winona State last Thursday while the Golden Bears lost 20-13 at third-ranked Minnesota Duluth. NSU was led by Jared Jacobson's 221 yards of total offense against the Warriors. Jacobson also had Northern's lone score with a six-yard touchdown run in the loss.

Jacobson led the Wolves with 56 yards rushing on 11 carries while throwing for 165 yards in week one. Tight end Conner Doherty led Northern with five catches for 55 yards in the loss while Wil Carlson had four grabs for 24 yards. Blaine Schmidt led the Wolves defense with nine total tackles against WSU while Chad Stoterau had six tops and a team-high two tackles-for-loss.

Scouting the Golden Bears
Concordia is led by dual-threat quarterback Corey Cole who led CU with 177 yards rushing and a score against UMD last weekend. Cole also threw for 130 yards in the loss. Cordell Smith had six catches for 75 yards in the contest. Smith led the Golden Bears with 554 yards receiving and nine touchdowns in 2013.

Linebacker Josh Trifunov, who was an honorable mention All-NSIC selection last season, led Concordia with 12 tackles against the Bulldogs. Punter Tom Obarski was a First Team honoree last season. The Golden Bears are led by Ryan Williams who is in his fourth season at CU. Former NSU assistant Mike Shafer is Concordia's offensive coordinator.

Last Meeting
NSU held on for a 24-23 win in 2012 after blocking Concordia's game-tying PAT attempt with 34 second to play. Jacobson passed for 191 yards and two touchdowns in the win. The victory was Northern's first of the season in 2012 and sparked a three-game winning streak.

The Series
The Golden Bears lead the all-time series 7-5. NSU is looking for its first win at Concordia since the series' first meeting back in 1999.
