Photo GalleryAberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team fell in two games against Minnesota State-Mankato from Swisher, with scores of 0-4 and 1-11. The Wolves are now 8-18 on the year and 1-9 in the NSIC.
Game One Northern starter
Kami Smesmo was solid for the Wolves heading into the top of the fifth inning. Smesmo gave up four runs off seven hits in the game while striking out two. The loss resulted in her eighth of the season.
The NSU offense was hitless through six innings of play as MSU starter Coley Ries struck out nine Wolves batters, and 11 in the game.
Eryn Yancy broke up the no-no with a single to left field. Yancy recorded the only Northern hit of the game.

Kelsey Gale who had reached base on a fielder's choice. Yancy recorded the only RBI of the game, and notched one of the team's two hits. Pinch hitter
Taylor Kontaxis connected for the Wolves second hit of the day in the bottom of the seventh with a single up the middle.
Kami Smesmo and
Missy Elkins threw a combined seven innings for the Wolves giving up seven earned runs off 16 MSU hits. Smesmo suffered the loss for Northern.
The Wolves will be back in action this Wednesday traveling to Minot State University. NSU will stay on the road over the weekend as they take on Upper Iowa and Winona State.
