Wolves Open NSIC Tournament Hosting Augustana

The Northern State men's basketball team opens postseason play Wednesday evening inside Wachs Arena as the Wolves host Augustana at 8:00 in the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament. NSU earned the fourth seed in the NSIC North Division while the Vikings finished fifth in the south.

The Wolves defeated Augustana back on February 15 in Sioux Falls, 85-78. The win snapped a 10-game losing streak for Northern against AC and it was Northern's first win at Augustana since December of 2007. Skye Warwick led the Wolves with 21 points and hit a career-high seven three-pointers in the win. NSU made a season-high 16 three-pointers as a team.

About the Vikings
Augustana was fifth in the league in scoring offense this season averaging 80.8 points per game and was seventh in scoring defense allowing 74.5 points per. The Vikings are deadly from three-point range as they were second in the NSIC in long range shooting at 39.8 percent on the year. Augustana was fourth in rebounding averaging 36 boards per game and its 3.4 rebounding margin was sixth-best in the conference. The Vikings rank fifth in the league in assists per game with 13.68 and were fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.19.

Casey Schilling is the main man for the Vikings as he ranked second in the league in scoring (19 ppg), fourth in rebounding (8.5 rpg), 10th in assists (3.23 apg), fourth in steals (1.86 spg), sixth in three-point percentage (45.7 percent) and was ninth in minutes played (33.14 mpg). Daniel Jansen was sixth in the conference in scoring averaging 17.5 points per and Adam Beyer's 3.27 assists per contest ranked ninth.

Northern Notes
Northern was led by Tydan Storrusten's 11.8 points per game during conference play this season. Storrusten was also seventh in the league in assists per game with 3.55 and was eighth in free-throw percentage at 84.1 percent. Seth Bachand ranked fourth in the league in shooting percentage at 60 percent and was 16th averaging 5.6 rebounds per game. Sharpshooter Skye Warwick ranks fourth in the NSIC in three-point percentage at 47.3 percent and also led the league with 2.77 three-pointers made per game.

The Wolves are 1-1 under Head Coach Paul Sather in the NSIC Tournament. NSU defeated Sioux Falls 63-60 last season before being eliminated by Augie 85-61 in the next round.

Wednesday's game, along with the NSU women's game at 6:00 p.m., will be a "White Out" game. Northern fans are encouraged to wear white to the games. The NSU Wolf Shoppe has white NSU apparel for sale.

Gates open at 5 p.m. for the doubleheader. There will be two ticket gates at the north, south and west entrances. Tickets will cost $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and children five and under get in free. All NSU students will gain free admittance to Wednesday's game with their student ID. Students can swipe their ID's at all three entrances. Due to conference regulations, all Wolves Club season ticket holders are required to purchase a ticket at the door. Wolves Club members will be able to sit in their reserved seat and reserved parking passes will be honored. Use the normal WC entrance to pay for your ticket. Ushers will assist in finding your seats if needed.

The winner of Wednesday's game will travel to the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls for the rest of the NSIC Tournament and will take on the winner of No. 15 Minnesota State and Minnesota, Crookston at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
