Northern State snapped its four-game losing streak with an impressive performance at Wayne State Friday night, recording its largest win of the season, 90-59.
For the second consecutive game,
Darin Peterka recorded a career-high. Peterka led the Wolves with 23 points on 5-of-6 shooting and 4-of-5 from three-point range. Peterka also tied a career-best with five rebounds in the win and had two steals.
Skye Warwick added 14 points and a pair of three-pointers while
Tydan Storrusten added eight points and a game-high six assists for Northern.
Seth Bachand and
Spencer Pankonin both added nine points. The nine points tied a career-high for Pankonin.
Carter Evans,
Jared Hannigan and
Michael Schreiber all added eight points in the victory. Evans added five rebounds and a pair of blocks as well.
Northern (15-10, 10-9 NSIC) shot 26-for-42 (62 percent) from the floor which was its second-best shooting performance of the season. The Wolves also went 10-of-20 from three-point range on the night.
NSU led from start to finish in the contest and ended the first half on a 15-2 run and carried a 49-25 lead into the break. Wayne State (8-15, 5-14 NSIC) could only cut the lead down to 21 from there on out as the Wolves built their lead to as many as 37 points at 90-53 with 2:46 left to go in the contest.
The Northern bench scored a season-high 51 points in the game while the Wildcats got 23 from their reserves. Although NSU got outscored in the paint 26-22, the Wolves scored 15 points off of Wayne turnovers, an impressive feat considering the Wildcats turned the ball over just seven times. Northern had just nine turnovers on the night and recorded 17 assists on 26 made baskets.
Northern now has a two-game lead over Minnesota Duluth for fourth-place in the NSIC North Division. The Wolves return to action Saturday night as they head to Sioux Falls for a 6:00 contest with Augustana.
