Wolves Host a Pair of NSIC Games This Weekend

The Northern State men's basketball team returns to NSIC action this weekend as a pair of conference foes come to Wachs Arena. The Wolves and U-Mary play Friday at 8 p.m. while NSU and Minot State tip-off at 7 p.m. Saturday. This weekend's contests will close-out a seven game homestand for Northern.

The Wolves enter the weekend 6-1 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC. NSU is looking to avoid its first 0-2 start to conference play since the 2009-10 season when the Wolves lost their first five NSIC games. Northern is coming off an 88-71 victory Monday night over Jamestown in its final non-conference game of the season, Northern shot a season-best 56.7 percent in the victory and dished-out a season-high 20 assists against the Jimmies.

Seth Bachand leads the Wolves averaging 14.7 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. He is 10th in the league in scoring and is second in the NSIC in rebounding, while his 71.7 percent field goal shooting is second-best in the conference. Darin Peterka's 12.6 points per game rank 21st in the league and second on the team and his two steals per contest lead the league. Skye Warwick continues to be one of the NSIC's top three-point shooters as his 55.6 percent shooting from deep ranks seventh in the league and his 2.9 three-pointers made per game is tops in the league.

About the Marauders
U-Mary is led by Head Coach Jevin Budde who is in his fourth season with the Marauders. Mary is 14th in the league in scoring offense averaging 68 points per game and is 11th in scoring defense, allowing 72 a contest. As a team, the Marauders are shooting 45.7 percent from the field and allowing 49 percent shooting to their opponents, which ranks last in the league.

Bryan Jefferson leads the Marauders in scoring averaging 19 points per game but has played in just two games this season. Damonta Henry's 14.8 points per game rank second on the team and 11th in the league. Marquealis Edwards' 4.5 assists per game are sixth-best in the league and he is also 10th in the NSIC in free-throw percentage (85.7 percent) and in steals with 1.5 per game.

About the Beavers
Minot State is under Head Coach Matt Murken who is in his third season with the Beavers. Minot is one of the better defensive teams in the league as they allow just over 65 points per game, which ranks sixth in the NSIC. The Beavers have the sixth-best field goal percentage defense (41.4 percent) and second-best three-point percentage defense (31.5 percent) in the league. Minot is second in the league in rebounding averaging 42.7 boards per game and its plus-15.7 rebounding margin ranks third in the conference.

Everett Robinson leads a balanced offensive attack averaging 11.8 points per game while Thomas Korf is second on the team averaging 11.2 points per contest. Robinson also ranks eighth in the NSIC in rebounds per game with 7.5 and is fourth in field goal percentage shooting 67.5 percent. Dominique McDonald's 4.5 assists per game are sixth in the league.  

Dare To Share
This weekend's games will also be a part of Northern's Dare To Share Food Drive. Fans can bring non-perishable food items to the arena this weekend for the drive on either or both nights. Fans that bring three items or more will receive a coupon for a free scoop of Culver's frozen custard that is redeemable at any NSU basketball game this season or at Culver's restaurant in Aberdeen.
