SCSU Live Video Aberdeen, S.D. – The Wolves leave the confines of Wachs Arena for two road match-ups with NSIC opponents Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. Northern will tip-off with the Bulldogs Friday at 6 p.m., and then travel to take on the Huskies Saturday at 4 p.m. Northern is 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the Northern Sun heading into the weekend. The Huskies and Wolves are two of the three unbeaten teams in the league.
The Wolves finished their seven game home stint last weekend with wins against U-Mary and Minot State. The squad also moved up to third in the national Top 25 Poll. NSU topped the Marauders as
Megan Mutchler matched her career high of 24 points set a season ago. Night two proved to be a test for the Wolves, with a very physical Beaver team. Minot State out-shot the Wolves for the first time this season, however Northern was able to pull it together for the 61-49 victory.
Rachel Krogman matched her career high of 17 boards, while
Megan Mutchler continued to lead the team in points, with 16. The Wolves must look to shut down conference leading scorer Taylor Meyer in night one. Northern must continue to rebound well versus the Huskies and cut down on un-necessary turnovers. The Wolves sit atop both the North Divisional standings and the NSIC as a whole.
About the Bulldogs The Bulldogs had a bit of a rocky start to the season, racking up loss versus Michigan Tech, Pitt State, and St. Cloud State. The bounced back last weekend for two wins versus Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. Taylor Meyer and Jessica Newman were standouts for UMD each average 20 points or more in to two contests. Meyer currently leads the conference in scoring with a 22.0 points per game in league play.
NSU vs. UMD All-Time Northern is 24-33 all-time versus the Bulldogs. The Wolves have won the last five contest dating back to 2011-12. A season ago, Northern took both match-ups with scores of 70-59 and 75-66.
Rachel Krogman combined for 45 points and 15 rebounds in the two wins.
About the Huskies The un-ranked Huskies received votes in this week's Top 25 poll, with a 6-0 record overall, and 3-0 record in the Northern Sun. St. Cloud State has matched up with South Dakota School of Mines, University of Jamestown, Minnesota Duluth, Bemidji State, and Minnesota Crookston. SCSU is out-scoring their opponents by 11 points a game and leads the conference in three point field goal percentage defensively and steals per game.
