The Northern State volleyball team closed its regular season Saturday night, dropping a five-set thriller to No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul. The Wolves (19-9, 12-8 NSIC) opened the match by taking the first two sets, 25-18 and 29-27, but CU (25-4, 18-2 NSIC) responded to take the next three sets, 25-21, 25-22 and 17-15.
Kelsey Chambers and
Cari McGarvie each led the Wolves with 20 kills in the loss. McGarvie hit .444 to lead the team and set a new career-high for kills. McGarvie had set her previous career-high Friday against MSU. Chambers hit .375 for the match and recorded her 12
th double-double of the season as she registered 17 digs as well.
Mandy Kurosky added 14 kills in the loss while
Tori Biach and
Hailey Busch had nine and eight kills, respectively. Biach also led the Wolves with five total blocks.
Drew Smith led the Wolves with 62 assists and had 13 digs to record her 13
th double-double of the season.
Renee Hoffman led NSU with 21 digs on the night.
Concordia hit .261 as a team in the match while Northern hit .257. The Golden Bears held a 14 to seven advantage on total blocks and also had six aces and eight service errors while Northern had four aces and nine serving errors.
Northern will be the sixth seed in next week's NSIC/US Bank Volleyball Tournament. The Wolves will travel to face Wayne State at 7 p.m. Nov. 11. WSC defeated Northern 3-1 earlier this season.
