The Northern State volleyball team put together an impressive performance Friday night as the Wolves came away with a four-set victory over Minnesota State at Aberdeen Central High School. Northern hit .372 as a team in the win, it's second-highest hitting percentage of the season.
The Wolves (19-8, 12-7 NSIC) came out on fire to open the match, hitting .378 in set one and winning 25-16. MSU would respond by winning a long second set, 30-28. However, NSU came out of the break even stronger than to begin the match, as the Wolves hit .432 in set three, winning 25-21 and hit .357 in the fourth and decisive set, winning 25-14.
Cari McGarvie was a force for Northern in the win, recording a career-high 19 kills, hitting .667 and tied a career-best with eight total blocks.
Kelsey Chambers added 16 kills and 11 digs, giving Chambers her 11
th double-double of the season.
Tori Biach added 11 kills and hit .611, while
Mandy Kurosky chipped in with 10 and
Hailey Busch had eight kills and six block assists.
Drew Smith averaged 14.5 assists per set on the night as she recorded 58 assists to go along with a team-high 15 digs. Smith also added a pair of aces and three total blocks in the win.
Renee Hoffman added 12 digs and
Annika van Oosbree had 10 digs in the back row.
NSU held the Mavericks (16-10, 12-7 NSIC) to just a .196 attack percentage in the match and also recorded 20 total blocks, while MSU had 13.
Northern returns to action Saturday night as the Wolves close their regular season with a 5 p.m. contest against third-ranked Concordia-St. Paul from Wachs Arena. Saturday will be Senior Night as the Wolves will honor seniors
Macey Finizio and
Morgan Richardson before the match.
