Wolves Host Minnesota, Crookston in Home Finale

The Northern State football team will close its 2014 home slate Saturday afternoon as Minnesota, Crookston comes to town for a 1 p.m. contest from Swisher Field. Saturday will be the 59th annual Shriners Game at NSU, as well as Senior Day. The NSU-Yelduz Shriners annual game is the longest running collegiate shrine game in the country. Northern will also be honoring 15 seniors playing their final home game prior to the game.

The Wolves enter the contest at 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the North Division. NSU is looking for its third consecutive win at home after opening the season with two losses at The Swish. The Wolves have averaged 43.5 points per game in their last two home victories

NSU is coming off a 42-33 victory last Saturday at U-Mary. Quarterback Jared Jacobson tallied a career-high 502 yards of total offense and accounted for five total touchdowns in the win. Jacobson's 502 yards of offense were just nine off the program record of 511 set by Kip Kieso in 1992. Jacobson is currently fourth in the NSIC in both passing offense (256.8) and total offense (314.2).

About the Golden Eagles
UMC is 0-9 this season and is coming off a 77-3 loss to No. 2 Minnesota Duluth last weekend. The Golden Eagles are led by wide receiver Adam Connette who leads the team with 42 catches, 482 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Quarterback Ben Bucholz has passed for nearly 1,100 yards this season and has seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Defensively, Crookston is led by linebacker Greg Lofquist who leads the NSIC in tackles with 127 (14 per game). Along the defensive line, Ben Taliulu leads the squad with 3.5 sacks this season. The Golden Eagles are led by Mike Fritze who is in his season as the head coach at UMC. In 2013 Fritz was the interim head coach.

Last Meeting
The Wolves recorded one of their two shutouts in 2013 against UMC, winning 28-0 in Crookston. Conner Doherty caught two touchdowns in the win. The Northern defense held Crookston to just 105 yards of total offense in the contest.

The Series
NSU leads the all-time series 13-1. Crookston's lone win came in 2000 in Crookston.

Forecast
Saturday's forecast has steadily gotten better throughout the week. Temps are now expected to be in the high 40s at kickoff with partly cloudy skies and winds out of the west at 10-15 MPH.
