Photo GalleryAberdeen, S.D. – Tallying their third 20 plus point win of the season, the Northern State University women's basketball team defeated Black Hills State University, 68-45, from Aberdeen. The Wolves improve to a perfect 4-0 on the year, heading into their final two non-conference contests of the season.
Northern hit the boards for a season high 56 rebounds, while holding the Yellow Jackets to a mere 22 in the game. The 34 rebound discrepancy led to a season high 18 second chance points off 22 offensive rebounds, and 34 defensive rebounds for NSU.
Rachel Krogman led the team with 11 rebounds and 14 points for her second double-double of the season. Krogman shot 50 percent from the floor, while adding on block and six assists in the contest.
Sadie Stotesbery added nine rebounds and 12 points.
As a team the Wolves shot 42.2 percent from the floor, and recorded a season high 28 points off the bench. Northern recorded their fourth season high of the night with 38 points in the paint. The Wolves led 36-16 heading into halftime, shooting 13-for-24 from the floor. NSU scored 12 points off nine BHSU turnovers in the opening twenty minutes.
Lauren Deadrick recorded a career high 12 points and five rebounds, while
Megan Mutchler notched nine points and four rebounds. Deadrick went 5-for-6 in from the floor and added one assist to her season total.
Bethany Crosswait and
MacKinzie Magner notched a basket and rebound apiece in their time on the floor.
The largest lead of the game for the Wolves came midway through the second half off a
Kara Hofschild layup to put NSU up by 26. Hofschild tallied six points and three rebounds in the victory. Freshmen
Miranda Ristau recorded a career high six points in six minutes of play, while adding three rebounds.
Paige Waytashek recorded the teams' lone three of the night and notched a team second best three assists.
NSU will return to Wachs Arena for a Sunday contest with the visiting Hardrockers of SD School of Mines and Technology. Game time is set for 1 p.m., with the NSU men's team to follow.
