Wolves Open Home Season Wednesday, from Wachs Arena

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University women's basketball team returns home this Wednesday and Friday for their first games of the 2014-15 season from Wachs Arena. NSU will tip-off against University of Jamestown, Wednesday at 6 p.m., and Black Hills State, Friday at 7 p.m., from Aberdeen. Northern will continue the home stand over the next week and a half with match-ups against SD School of Mines, Mayville State, MSU Moorhead, University of Mary, and Minot State. 

The Wolves enter this weeks' games with two wins under their belts, versus Northwest Missouri State and Nebraska-Kearney. NSU was led by Rachel Krogman and Megan Mutchler who average 12 points a piece in the two games. Mutchler recorded a season high night with 17 point versus the Bearcats, while Krogman led the team in rebounds against both the Bearcats (9) and the Lopers (8). Northern averaged 67 points as a team in the two games, while out-rebounding their opponents 78-63. Lauren Deadrick was strong under the basket for Northern, pulling down ten rebounds on the weekend. The Wolves look to cut down on turnovers and improve from the free-throw line as they head into week two.  

About University of Jamestown

The NAIA DII Jimmies were picked to finish first in league play by the NSAA coaches. Jamestown is on a two game win streak with victories over Oglala Lakota College and Concordia Moorhead. The current seventh ranked team in the NAIA,  is 4-3 overall with losses coming to Univesity of Winnipeg, Concordia Nebraska, and and Dakota Wesleyan. 

NSU vs. UJ All-Time

The Wolves are 34-8 All-Time against the Jimmies with the first competition coming in 1975-76 with a NSU victory. Northern is on a seven game win streak against UJ, dating back to the 1999-00 season. The two teams last appearance occured in 2005-06 with a 68-54 Northern win. 

About Black Hills State

The Yellow Jackets enter Friday's game after a mid-week match-up with SD School of Mines. BHSU returns both Chelsey Biegler and Courtney Patterson, members of the Yellow Jacket 1,000 point club. Black Hills was picked second in the RMAC preseason coaches poll after finishing 15-14 overall and 13-11 in conference play a season ago. 

NSU vs. BHSU All-Time

Northern is a perfect 9-0 against BHSU over the years. The two teams first match-up came in 1978-79 with a 76-37 NSU win. A season ago Northern defeated Black Hills 77-67 on the road. Paige Waytashek led the Wolves with a career high 24 points.
