The Northern State volleyball team improved its record to 17-7 overall and 10-6 in the NSIC Tuesday night as the Wolves defeated MSU Moorhead for the second time this season in four sets. Set scores went 25-21, 14-25, 25-18 and 25-19.
The difference in Tuesday's match was the way NSU closed-out sets, as the Wolves ended set one on a 7-3 run, set three on an 8-3 run and closed-out the match with a 10-3 run in the fourth. Northern hit .238 overall as a team while the Dragons (10-14, 5-11 NSIC) hit .231.
Tori Biach had a big match for the Wolves as she recorded 11 kills and hit a team-best .400 in the victory. Biach also set career-highs in digs with nine and total blocks with eight in the match, while also recording an ace.
Kelsey Chambers and
Mandy Kurosky led the Wolves with 13 kills each. Chambers also recorded 13 digs, giving her 10 double-doubles on the season.
Jussy Tuscherer added eight kills and 13 digs for NSU as well.
Renee Hoffman led the squad with 17 digs from her libero position. Hoffman also tied a career-best with a team-high three aces against MSUM. The Wolves had seven aces as a team.
Drew Smith recorded 49 assists on the evening.
NSU continues its three-match road swing this weekend as it travels to face Winona State Friday at 7 p.m. and Upper Iowa in a 3 p.m. match Saturday.
