The Northern State volleyball team came away with a come-from-behind five-set victory over Minot State Tuesday night in Minot, N.D. NSU snaps a two-match losing streak and improves to 13-6 overall and 6-5 in NSIC play with the win.
After dropping the first set 25-19, the Wolves responded with a convincing 25-14 victory in set two. However, Minot State (4-15, 2-9 NSIC) responded to take a thrilling third set 26-24. Northern would rally to take the next two sets, winning set four 25-19 and taking the decisive fifth set 15-13.
Kelsey Chambers led the Wolves with 23 kills which tied a career-high while also recording 15 digs, giving Chambers her sixth double-double of the season.
Mandy Kurosky added 18 kills in the victory.
Cari McGarvie added eight and
Jussy Tuscherer chipped in with seven.
The Wolves were active at the net defensively in the match as
Tori Biach, McGarvie and
Holly Vancura each added five block assists on the night. Chambers added three total blocks and Tuscherer had two. Vancura registered her second double-double of the season as she recorded 51 assists and 18 digs.
Renee Hoffman led NSU with 21 digs in the match from her libero position.
Northern out-hit Minot .251 to .190 in the match and had five players that recorded an ace in the win. NSU had just two serving errors while the Beavers recorded six aces and had six errors.
NSU returns to action this weekend for a pair of road matches. The Wolves will face Minnesota, Crookston at 7 p.m. Friday and Bemidji State in a 5 p.m. match Saturday.
