Northern Tops Jamestown in Dual

The Northern State wrestling team improved its record to 2-1 in dual meets on the season as the Wolves defeated Jamestown 32-15 Wednesday night in NSU's first competition of the New Year.

Sean Havlovic at 157 and Blake Lundgren at 165 each picked up pins for the Wolves. Havlovic stopped JC's Jevon Schnaubert at the 2:23 mark while Lundgren pinned Julian Gallegos at the 4:43 mark of their match.

After forfeiting at 125, Northern won five consecutive matches to build a 24-6 lead over the Jimmies. Jamestown picked up another forfeit win at 174 before the Wolves closed the match winning two of the final three matchups.

Joe Gomez at 197 defeated Brian Kaehler by tech fall, 18-1 to give NSU five team points. Cody Voegeli (133), Tyler Frost (141), Beau Voegeli (149) and Anthony Navarro (184) also picked up wins on the night. Cody Vogeli defeated Coby Horner 6-5 in a hard-fought match. Frost picked up a forfeit win, while Beau Voegeli won 4-1 over Dillon Kifer and Navarro blanked Johnathan Gonzalez 6-0.

Northern returns to action Saturday as MSU Moorhead comes to town for a 6 p.m. dual. Saturday's dual will be held at Central High School as part of a doubleheader with the Golden Eagles' wrestling squad.
