Northern Ready For Home Conference-Openers

Northern State plays its first conference home games over the weekend as Minnesota, Crookston and Bemidji State come to town. The Wolves opened their NSIC schedule going 2-1 on the road. UMC will be the open Friday for an 8 p.m. game while Bemidji State is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Wolves will play three-straight games at Wachs Arena to close-out the fall semester as MSU Moorhead comes to town next Saturday, Dec. 21.

About Minnesota, Crookston
The Golden Eagles are second-to-last in the league in scoring offense averaging 66.7 points per game. UMC is in the top-half of the NSIC in three-point shooting this season, making 35.4 percent of its three-point attempts. The Golden Eagles have a formidable defense on the inside as they rank fifth in the league averaging 3.3 blocks per game. UMC also ranks eighth in the NSIC in assists per game with 11.67.

Crookston is led by 12th-year Head Coach Jeff Oseth. Oseth is the third-longest tenured coach in the NSIC entering the 2013-14 season. As an NCAA Division II program, Oseth is the all-time winnigest coach at UMC.

UMC's Ashton Harrell is sixth in the league in scoring at 19.3 per contest. Harrell's 58.6 percent field goal percentage is 12th-best in the league. Kevin Larson ranks second in the NSIC averaging 5.67 assists per game and his 5.67 assist-to-turnover ratio is second in the conference behind Warwick's 9.0 ratio.

About Bemidji State
Bemidji State is ninth in the league in scoring at 79.3 per game but is third in scoring defense at 69. The Beavers' 10.3 scoring margin is fifth in the league. BSU has a very strong defense as it ranks fourth in defensive field goal percentage in the NSIC at 41.3 percent and is second in defensive three-point shooting (28.1). The Beavers are second in the league in both rebounding offense (41.3) and rebounding defense (27.3) and are tops in the NSIC in rebounding margin (14). Bemidji is also tops in the league in blocked shots per game with five. The Beavers are led by second-year Head Coach Mike Boschee.

The Beavers are led by the league's leading scorer, Brock Lutes, who is averaging 24.3 points per game this season in NSIC play. Forward Maxie Rosenbloom leads the conference in rebounding at an incredible 14.3 per contest.

Northern Notes
Northern State is led by four players in double figures this season. Seth Bachand leads the team averaging 13.4 points per game while Skye Warwick averages 12 per. Tydan Storrusten is averaging 10.7 and Trent Zomer is scoring 10.3 per contest. Storrusten leads the Wolves in NSIC play averaging 15 points per game which ranks 16th in the league. Warwick leads the league with 3.33 three-pointers made per game. His 58.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc ranks eighth in the NSIC.

Northern is tied for sixth in the league averaging 82.3 points per game in conference play so far. The Wolves are allowing 81.7 points per contest defensively in NSIC games. The Wolves' 49.4 percent shooting from the floor is third-best in the conference. NSU shares the rock as well, as Northern sits second in the league in assists per game with 16.

The Wolves are 3-0 in home conference-openers under Head Coach Paul Sather and are 5-1 against UMC and 4-2 against Bemidji with Sather at the helm.
