No. 5 UMD Upends Northern 39-7

Fifth-ranked Minnesota Duluth amassed 468 yards of total offense while holding Northern State to just 205 yards total as the Wolves fell on Senior Day 39-7 to the Bulldogs at Swisher Field.

The Bulldogs rushed for 260 yards on 45 while carries while NSU was stifled to just 39 yards on the ground on 24 attempts.

Northern got off to a great start Saturday as the Wolves forced a UMD punt on its first drive and went 87 yards on just three plays for its only score of the game on its first drive. Jacobson scored on a six-yard run but the score was set up by a 79-yard catch and run by Terrelle Walker on first down.

Northern (4-7) hung around for much of the first half with the Bulldogs as Duluth eventually took the lead 10-7 on an eight-yard touchdown run by quarterback Drew Bauer with 9:41 remaining in the second quarter.

After that, things opened up for UMD as the Bulldogs scored on a reverse pass as wideout Justin Fowlkes hit Bauer on a 15-yard touchdown pass with 1:15 remaining. The Bulldogs then intercepted Jacobson on the next drive and kicked a 30-yard field goal to take a 19-7 advantage into the break.

Austin Sikorski, who led Duluth with 129 yards rushing scored from 12 yards out to give UMD a 25-7 lead with six minutes left in the third quarter. Chaz Thomas scored to put the Bulldogs up 32-7 in the fourth when he scored from eight yards out and Austin Selvick's 22-yard touchdown scamper finished the scoring on the day.

Jacobson led the Wolves in rushing with 25 yards on seven carries while John Hughes rushed for 14 yards on six totes. Jacobson went 11-for-29 passing on the day for 166 yards and the one interception. Walker led the Wolves with 105 yards receiving on three catches. Walker's 79-yard catch was the longest play of the season for the Wolves.

Defensively, Northern was led by Trever Heining's 10 tackles. Logan Dosch, who played his final game with the Wolves had eight tackles. Dosch finishes his illustrious career with a program record 274 tackles. Mike Tuch recorded five stops and had Northern's lone takeaway with an interception in the third quarter.

Prior to the game, 12 seniors were honored for their contributions to Northern State as they played their final game in maroon and gold.
