NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

• Northern opened the 2026 campaign with a 42-17 win over (RV) Chadron State last week
• NSU tallied 486 yards of total offense and six touchdowns in the win, led in large part by 232 rushing yards and four scores from Hank Kraft
• The offense was efficient for NSU converting on 8-of-16 third downs and 2-of-2 fourth downs; they also averaged 8.1 yards per rush and 8.4 yards per reception
• The defense held the Eagles to two touchdowns and 356 yards with 3.0 sacks for a total loss of 17 yards
• Ty Englehart and Joey Dube-Garrett shared time under center with Englehart throwing for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the win
• Cooper Eisenbeisz and Jessie Campbell tallied the two receiving scores for the Wolves against the Eagles
• The Wolves went 7-4 overall in 2025 where three school records were broken and nine student-athletes earned All-Conference accolades, with Jake Adams and Daniel Porisch earning All-America awards
• Northern enters the 2026 season NSIC slate picked sixth overall and second in the North Division in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll
• Adams and Hank Kraft were picked as the North Division's defensive and offensive preseason players to watch despite playing only partial seasons in 2025; Adams also garnered a spot on the D2Football.com Elite 100 Watch List

 

WINONA STATE STORYLINES

• Winona State opened the season at the University of St. Thomas, falling 15-9
• The Warriors were picked ninth overall and fifth in the South Division by the league's coaches heading into the season
• Quarterback Jackson Flottmeyer and defensive lineman David Nies were picked as the team's players to watch heading into 2026
• Flottmeyer threw for 2,055 yards and 19 touchdowns a season ago and tallied 116 yards passing against UST last week, completing 13-of-25 attempts
• Jahmani Muhammad scored the lone touchdown for WSU, rushing for 75 total yards, while Evan Swanstrom knocked in a 32-yard field goal
• Ethan Doucette and Brent Jeske led the defense with eight tackles apiece
• WSU is led by head coach Brian Curtin in his second season
