The Northern State men's basketball team overcame 31 points from Dakota State's Dylan Hale and 67 percent shooting in the second half by the Trojans to escape with a 93-90 victory Friday night inside Wachs Arena.
All 10 Wolves that played in the game scored and Northern was once again led
Seth Bachand as he scored a team-high 17 points and also added seven rebounds.
Skye Warwick had 16 points and hit four three-pointers including a huge one with 1:24 remaining to put Northern up for good at 91-90.
Darin Peterka added a career-high 14 points and three assists in the win, while
Jared Hannigan scored 12 points and
Michael Schreiber chipped in with 11 points and a team-high eight boards.
Trent Zomer had a quite night scoring the ball but also dished out a career-best five assists in the contest.
Northern shot 54 percent from the floor in the game while the Trojans shot 52.5 percent and made an incredible 50 percent (13-for-26) from beyond the arc.
For the first time this season the Wolves were out-rebounded in a game as DSU collected 31 rebounds to Northern's 29. The Wolves held a slim edge in points in the paint at 32-28 and again got great production from their bench as NSU put up 47 bench points to Dakota State's 25.
Northern got off to a great start Friday as the Wolves led the entire first half and even built a 19 point lead with 4:12 to go in the first at 42-23. The Trojans managed to shave the lead down to 12 at 48-36 going into halftime.
NSU led 67-55 with 13:18 to play when DSU went on a 26-12 run and grabbed a two-point lead with 4:38 remaining, 81-79. After the two teams traded baskets, Zomer's three-point play put Northern back up 87-85 with just over three minutes to go in the game. Down 88-85 however, Hale hit one of his seven three-pointers to tie the game back at 88 apiece.
The Wolves shot 18-for-24 from the line (75 percent) while Dakota State hit 81 percent of its attempts from the charity stripe, going 13-of-16.
The Wolves (3-1) return to action Sunday as Dickinson State comes to town for a 4 p.m. contest. It will be the third game of Northern's four-game homestand.
