The Northern State men's basketball team's home opener is Tuesday evening as Jamestown College comes to Wachs Arena for a 7 p.m. tip with the Wolves.
Setting the Stage
Saturday kicks off a four-game homestand for NSU as Northern hosts Dakota State Nov. 15, Dickinson State Nov.17 and Mayville State Nov. 25.
The Wolves are coming off a split over the weekend at the Sanford Tip-Off Classic in Sioux Falls. Northern was defeated by Central Missouri 66-65 in a back-and-forth nail biter and defeated Missouri Western 87-78.
Seth Bachand led the Wolves with 16 points and nine rebounds per game at the classic.
Skye Warwick recorded a career-best 22 points in NSU's win over Missouri Western. Bachand also recorded his first career double-double in the win over the Griffons as he tied a career-high with 16 points and set a new career-best with 13 rebounds.
Scouting the Jimmies
Jamestown has already played six games this season and is 2-4 on the year. After winning their first two games over Crossroads College (Minn.) and Canadian Menonite, the Jimmies have lost their last four contests by an average of just 7.5 per game.
Jamestown is led by second-year Head Coach
Justin Wieck who is 10-30 with the Jimmies. JC likes to get up-and-down the court as Jamestown leads the NAIA with 61 made three-pointers and is second in the nation averaging over 93 points per game this season. The Jimmies are also sixth in the country with 109 assists.
Who to Watch
Bachand was selected as a "Player to Watch" by the NSIC in the preseason coaches' poll. Bachand is Northern's returning leading scorer after averaging 5.9 points per game in 20 games last season. Warwick is averaging 13 points per game for the Wolves this year, and hit a career-high six three-pointers against Missouri Western.
Trent Zomer leads the NSU bench as he's averaged 10 points, five rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game so far this year. Senior
Jared Hannigan leads the Wolves averaging 3.5 assists per game.
The Jimmies have three players averaging in double figures this year. They are led by Mark Hoge who is averaging 19.3 points per game. Twins Breguan and Breshion Tucker are averaging 17 and 13.5 points per game, respectively this season for JC.
