The 25
th-ranked Northern State volleyball team will be looking for its seventh- and eighth-straight wins this weekend as Winona State and Upper Iowa come to town for a pair of matches inside Wachs Arena.
The Wolves and Warriors will face-off in a 7 p.m. match Friday, while the match with Upper Iowa is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
WSU (8-13, 5-7 NSIC) comes into Friday's match having won its last two matches 3-1 over No. 17 Wayne State and Upper Iowa. The Warriors are led by a pair of attackers with 200-plus kills in Bekah Saugen (227) and Katie Foehle (201).
The Peacocks (6-15, 2-10 NSIC) are led by Jennifer Mundt's 254 kills this season. Libero Amanda Weiss is 10
th in the conference averaging 4.09 digs per set. UIU is seventh in the NSIC in total blocks this season, averaging 1.89 per set.
Northern comes into the weekend 16-3 overall and 9-3 in league play. Earlier this week, the Wolves avenged its first loss of the season with a 3-0 win over MSU Moorhead. The victory was NSU's 10
th sweep of the year.
Kelsey Chambers led the Wolves with 10 kills in the match. Chambers is second in the league with 4.22 kills per set. Chambers also added eight digs and a pair of aces in the win. Libero
Sami Nygaard led Northern with 17 digs. Nygaard is fourth in the NSIC with 4.57 digs per set.
Drew Smith and
Tori Biach are also in the top-five in the league in assists (11.75) and hitting percentage (.383), respectively. Smith ranks fifth in the conference while Biach is third in the league.
Earlier this week, NSU was ranked 25
th in the latest AVCA top-25 poll. It is the first time in program history the Wolves have been ranked in the top-25.
