Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. - Despite being outscored in the second half for the first time in 12 games, the Northern State Wolves prevailed in a key Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division match-up, taking a 58-55 victory over the Bemidji State Beavers Saturday night.
The win allows the Wolves to improve to 6-1 in road games this season, tripling their road win total from a season ago. NSU improved to 16-5 overall and 11-3 in league play. Bemidji State, which advanced to the NCAA Central Region Tournament last season, moves to 9-9 overall and 7-7 in the loop. The Beavers were coming off a big win over MSU Moorhead on Friday night.
Northern State relied heavily on the inside presence of senior forwards
Collin Pryor and
Dustin Tetzlaff, who combined to score 36 of NSU's 58 points on the night. The duo also combined to go 16-for-31 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the line in the winning effort. Pryor drilled a pair of free throws in the game's final minute - as did junior guard
Jared Hannigan - to help put the game out of reach.
Bemidji State got the better start to the game, leading 14-4 by the 12:14 mark of the first half. NSU rallied to force a 20-all tie eight minutes later and pushed the lead to six by halftime.
The Wolves lead by as many as 11 early in the second half, but an 8-0 Bemidji State run made it a one-possession game. The remainder of the action was a two-possession affair, but NSU was able to hold the Beavers at bay.
Pryor came off the bench for 19 points and nine rebounds, while Tetzlaff put up 17 points and eight boards. Freshman
Skye Warwick hit a trio of three-pointers to finish with nine points.
Bemidji State put three players in double figures, including Dermaine Crockrell and Lance Rongstad, each with 13 points. Mason Walters added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Beavers.
NSU remains on the road to face Winona State and Upper Iowa next weekend in a return to NSIC South Division action.
