Wolves falter against No. 2 Golden Bears, 3-0

ST. PAUL, Minn. - 
Second-ranked Concordia-St. Paul used a .352 attacking clip, hammering down 52 kills to Northern State's 29 en-route to a 3-0 sweep of the Wolves Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball action.  The Golden Bears won by game scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-19.

NSU, which opened the NSIC slate with five of six opponents in the Top 25, fell to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in league play.  Five-time defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul moved to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the loop.

Five of six starters finished with seven or more kills for the Golden Bears, led by Ellie Duffy's 14 and Cassie Haag's 11.   Duffy also had three of seven service aces for CU.

NSU was led by senior Kaleinani Kabalis, who had nine digs and 10 kills.  Freshman Renee Hoffman also had nine digs for the Wolves.  Senior Chelsea Chavez had six kills and was in on all five NSU blocks.

The Wolves return home briefly next weekend to host No. 4 Southwest Minnesota State, their fourth straight ranked opponent, on Friday night before hosting NSIC newcomer Sioux Falls on Saturday.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. Friday evening and 4 p.m. on Saturday in NSU's Wachs Arena.
