ABERDEEN, S.D. –
Bemidji State knocked a 2-out, 2-run home run in the top of the seventh, but it was the Wolves who had the last laugh as sophomore Robbie Rocamora laced an RBI double to center to score Brent Lawrence all the way from first, lifting Northern State to a 9-8 victory over the Beavers in Game 1 of Sunday's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader.  The Beavers held off the Wolves' rally in Game 2 to take a 5-4 lead in the series and season finale.

The Wolves end the season at 17-28 overall and 10-29 in NSIC play.  BSU, which saw its playoff hopes dashed with the Game 1 loss, ends its season with 23-27 overall and 16-20 NSIC marks.

The Wolves jumped out to an 8-3 lead in Game 1 thanks to a 7-run outburst in the second inning.  NSU rapped out five hits in that inning, including a bases-clearing single from Rocamora.  Both pitching staffs then put up a series of zeros on the scoreboard until the Beavers broke up the stand-off with three runs in the top of the sixth.

BSU tied it with two outs in the seventh following with a walk and home run by Juan Molero that made it an 8-8 ballgame heading into the bottom of the inning.

Not to be outdone in the dramatic play department, Lawrence worked a one-out single to center.  BSU starter Jayrd Marks induced a pop-out on the next batter, bringing Rocamora to the plate with two outs and the tying run 270 feet away.  The San Marcos, Calif. native delivered with his second hit of the game, a rocket double that scooted past a diving Molero in center and allowed Lawrence to score from first.

Clayton Nutting came on to get the final out of the seventh inning and picked up his second win of the season.  Nutting faced just one batter, getting the No. 9 batter in the lineup to pop up to the left side to end the inning.

Rocamora and junior second baseman Cameron Lehner had two hits apiece to lead the NSU offense.  Rocamora's four RBIs marked a game-best.

The Beavers did all their damage in the first two innings of Game 2, scoring two in the first and three in the second.  The Wolves responded with a run in each of the first two innings before both teams settled into a long scoreless streak.  NSU sophomore Kassidy Gaines worked 5.1 innings, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the seventh.

The Wolves took advantage of four singles in the bottom half of the inning to push across two more runs and close to within one at 5-4, but would get just one hit and two total base runners the rest of the way.

Seniors Zach Miller and Jack Thompson accounted for four of the Wolves' ten hits in Game two with Miller driving in two of the four runs.  Fellow senior Trent Bestland was tagged with the loss in his final appearance in an NSU uniform.
