ABERDEEN, S.D. -
Northern State drilled 13 treys and outscored the visiting Dakota State Trojans 44-18 on points in the paint, out-manning and out-gunning the Trojans in a fast-paced 95-62 win in the Wolves' 2012-13 home opener Friday night in Wachs Arena.

NSU sophomore Michael Emge hit 6-of-8 threes and finished with a career-high 23 points, while senior forward Dustin Tetzlaff was a perfect 10-for-10 from the field for 20 points for the Wolves.  Tetzlaff scored the game's first six points and Emge the next six as NSU jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes of play and never looked back.

Emge had 14 points by the end of the first half with Tetzlaff leading a dominant inside game for the Wolves.  Senior point guard Geoffrey Firman had four assists in the stanza, while the Wolves shot 60 percent from field goal range, 70 percent from long range and 80 percent from the free throw line.

The second half was much the same, with junior Trent Zomer getting in on the action.  Zomer finished with nine points and eight boards off the bench.  Freshman mack Arvidson added 10 points in a reserve role, canning 2-of-4 treys.  Skye Warwick also went 3-for-3 from long range for nine points and three assists.

Dakota State was led by Terrell Newton and Marcus Smith, who combined for 32 points off the bench.  Newton finished with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists.  DSU's starting five contributed just 28 of the Trojans' 62 points.

NSU evens its season out at 2-2.  Dakota State remains at 4-1 overall, as Friday's contest is counted as an exhibition game for the Trojans.

The Wolves remain at home to host Dickinson State on Sunday to wrap up pre-Thanksgiving play.  Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. in Wachs Arena.
