ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State Wolves return home after suffering a pair of tough road losses the last two weeks to open NSIC play, first to Minnesota State and last week to Concordia-St. Paul, who stymied the Wolves on what would have been a go-ahead scoring drive that stalled out inside the CU 20-yardline. The Wolves' welcome-home present comes in the form of the Wayne State Wildcats, who dethroned the former No. 1 Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs 7-0 last weekend.
Last Meeting: The Northern State University Wolves scored three times to Wayne State's one in the early going of last season's match-up and held a 13-7 lead with just under eight minutes to go in the first quarter before the host Wildcats scored 28 straight points to regain control of the game in the second half en-route to a 44-20 win over the Wolves.
About Wayne State: The Wildcats are receiving votes in the latest AFCA poll after WSC's landmark win over Minnesota-Duluth last weekend. That win came on the heels of a 21-40 loss to Nebraska-Kearney to open the season (UNK was ranked No. 16 in the preseason poll, now up to No. 7) and an 11-point victory over Minnesota, Crookston in the NSIC opener.
Head Coach Dan McLaughlin: McLaughlin owns a career record of 41-30 in his seventh season at the helm for WSC after making previous collegiate coaching stops at Minnesota State and the University of Nebraska. Prior to entering the collegiate ranks, he led three different high schools to Nebraska state titles.
Series History: Northern State leads the overall series 15-8-1, but has not won since taking a 29-16 win over the Wildcats in 2005 in Wayne.
