DICKINSON, N.D.  The Northern State baseball team finally got to take the field once again after having their last three days of slated baseball action canceled, but fell to the Dickinson State Blue Hawks by scores of 7-3 and 12-1 in a nonconference doubleheader in Dickinson, N.D.

The losses drop the Wolves to 3-22 on the year, and their NSIC record remains at 0-8.

The Wolves got on the board in the top of the first inning during the first game behind a solo homerun to left field by Lucas Jung.  The lead didn't last long though, as the Blue Hawks countered back in their portion of the first to add a score, tying the game up at 1-1.  They would add three more in the bottom of the second, one more in each of the bottom of the third and fourth innings to take a 6-1 lead.

The Wolves scored twice in the top of the sixth behind a two-run homer by Michael Cross over the left field fence, but an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning by the Blue Hawks and a 1-2-3 top of the seventh for the Wolves closed out the game.

Cross finished 1-2 with a homer, two RBI, a run scored and a walk to lead the Northern State offense.  Jung finished 1-3 with a run and an RBI, both coming off his first inning round-tripper.

Blaze Hanson took the loss after surrendering six runs (two earned) on eight hits during five innings of work.  He also walked three and struck out one batter.

The second game didn't go as well for the Wolves after they were only able to record one hit compared to 15 by the Blue Hawks in falling 12-1.  The Wolves were only able to get five base runners aboard during the game.

Michael Cross finished 1-2 with the only hit and run scored by the Wolves.

Trent Bestland took the loss after allowing four runs (all earned) on nine hits in four innings of work.  He also walked three and struck out one batter.

The Wolves will look to open up Fossum Field for their first home game of the season Wednesday when they host Concordia University in an NSIC battle.  First pitch is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
